The New Year's weekend, which Ukrainians have been waiting for so long, is over. Unfortunately, it became an expected fun time not for all of them.
So, at night of December 31 to January 1, the firefighters of the SESU had been engaged to extinguishing of fires in different parts of Ukraine. The fires have been caused by negligence of citizens and violation of fire safety rules in using pyrotechnical devices.
In particular, during the day there were eight fires in Mykolaiv oblast, one of which was caused by negligence in using fireworks. So, on January 1, the rescuers received the call about a fire at a balcony of the apartment on the sixth floor of nine-storeyed residential building in Mykolaiv City. The firefighters promptly arrived on the site. It turned out that the fire was caused by negligence in using pyrotechnical devices.
During the day of New Year there were four fires in Chernihiv oblast, one of which was again caused by negligence in using pyrotechnical devices. In particular, at 00.12hrs of January 1, the rescuers of Chernihiv City received a call about the fire of a car “Volkswagen Polo”. Before the rescuers arrived, the fire has been extinguished by the citizens with the help of fire extinguishers. The cause of fire is negligence in using fireworks.
And, at 15.47hrs of December 31, the Rescue Service “101” received a call about a fire that took place in a room on the second floor of two-storeyed residential building at Sobornyi district of Dnipro City. During the fire extinguishing the SES officers found the bodies of two people. As a result of the fire a woman got injuries and has been taken to the city clinical hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, the woman didn’t survive.
At the same time, at 01.35hrs of January 1, the Rescue Service “101” received a call about a fire in the territory of a private household in the village of Matviivka of Vilniansk distric in Zaporizhia oblast. During the fire extinguishing the firefighters found the body of a man (born in 1978) without signs of life.
Negligence in handling of pyrotechnical devices and careless of adults led to injuries of children on New Year's Eve.
So, in Dnipro City the firecracker exploded in the hands of a girl of ten and as a result the fingers of a child have been tore off. Preliminarily, the girl got the firecracker from her parents and during lighting-up it has immediately exploded in her hands. The victim has been taken to the regional children's hospital.
A boy of ten got injury when a firecracker hit him in the head in the village of Bezborodky in Cherkasy oblast. The boy has been taken to hospital. Doctors diagnosed a concussion, an open wound of the frontal area of the head and a burn of 1-2 degrees of frontal area of the head.
Moreover, the rescuers provided assistance to citizens who found themselves in other difficult situations on the first day of the new year.
So, on January 1, the woman, the inhabitant of Kyiv oblast who had a rest as a part of group in one of hotels, got lost near the Mount Yavirnyk of the village of Mykulychyn in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. The tourist went to Mount Yavirnyk on her own and lost her bearings. The rescuers used mobile phones to locate the tourist and soon found her and escorted to her temporary residence.
And, at 13.35hrs of January 1, the SESU received information that as a result of the failure of transformer substation the chairlift stopped in the village of Slavske of Skole district in Lviv oblast. The Mine and Rescue units of the SESU carried out the works on taking the tourists off the chairlift, where were 74 people (including 13 children and 3 pregnant women) at an air temperature of 1°C. At 16.05hrs, all 74 people were taken off the chairlift.
The tragic event has happened in Zakarpattia oblast, where a boy of 24, a resident of the village of Lysychevo of Irshava district, drowned on the Lysychanka River on New Year's Eve. At 00.01hrs of January 1, a kinswoman of the boy called the operational rescue service of Zakarpattia oblast. The woman told that the boy, going back home with his girlfriend, crossed the bridge over the Lysychanka River, slipped and fell into the water. The rescuers of the State Fire and Rescue Post of the village of Dovhe and local population have been forwarded to conduct search and rescue works. Already in the morning, the divers of the State Emergency Service joined the search works. At 10.05hrs the boy was found dead by the local population between the villages of Kushnytsa and Lysychevo. The rescuers removed the body from the water and handed it over to law enforcement bodies.
